Taxpayers are complaining and builders are on the defensive over a $1.7 million project that is looking worse for wear.
The new Fountain Square garage has only been open for a few months now, but already some residents claimed the garage is deteriorating. The Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC) said there is good reason.
People parking inside the garage said it features several puddles of standing water, a bucket beneath a leaky roof and nearly a dozen wet floor signs.
"It hasn't been a problem for me, but I do notice the water and am amazed at the amount of money spent," said Bill Berin, a driver that uses the garage.
The 3CDC said the water is a result of the continuing construction.
"We were under a lot of pressure to get the garage open for the holidays, which we did. The downside is we are not at our best, hopefully the people could be patient a little bit longer," said Bill Donabedian, of the 3CDC.
Donabedian pointed out that the majority of construction is right above the wet areas.
"Those areas are now open to the elements and have yet to be water-proofed. Once those areas are finished, we'll be finished with the garage and those problems shouldn't exist anymore," said Donabedian.
He said the project would be complete by Reds' opening day, which is just more than a month away.
